5 must-read books this November, according to romance author Ana Huang

Need some inspiration for your reading list? Ana Huang, author of No. 1 New York Times, stopped by TODAY’s 3 o’clock this morning to share what he’s been reading — and loving — lately.

Huang, the author of the “Twisted” series, is known for her provocative, dark and steamy new adult romance novels. With his latest book, “The Striker,” out Oct. 22, he leaves the world of billionaires found in “Twisted” and professional sports.

Asher Donovan is a famous footballer in the Premier League. After a major loss and a controversial team transfer, Asher is forced to bond with his former football rival during off-season training.

Things get even more complicated when he meets his rival’s sister, Scarlett DuBois, a former ballerina who takes a job as their coach.

Routines and off-season training are easy enough. But Scarlett and Asher don’t seem far from each other – even if falling in love is a very bad idea.

Read on for Huang’s book recommendations for this November. No wonder, romance novels await.

The best love story

“Make Time to Shine” by Ashley Herring Blake

Huang calls this “the perfect book” for the holiday season.

Charlotte Donovan was looking forward to a merry Christmas in Colorado after meeting her partner – not bumping into the old girlfriend who left him. The past is not easily forgotten.

“These two leads feel real, and they have to analyze their issues before they can find their happily ever after,” says Huang, adding that he also likes the book’s main “team” of supporting characters.

The best thriller

“The Boy” by Freida McFadden

Huang praised the latest in Freida McFadden’s list of best-selling toys, calling “The Boyfriend” a “definite page-turner, one that’s easy to binge at the same time.”

A handsome, charming doctor, Sydney Shaw’s new boyfriend seems perfect in every way. But is there a chance that he is actually a serial killer in New York, known for falling in love with his victims before killing them?

“McFadden explores the potentially dangerous pitfalls of online dating through the eyes of a woman, who has seen and experienced many tragic dates to find Prince Charming, with surprising strategies and sophisticated chemistry,” says Huang. .

The best book on screen

“The Opponents” by Jilly Cooper

This 1988 story takes place in the cut-throat world of British television. Now, it’s a Hulu show starring David Tennant, Aidan Turner and Katherine Parkinson.

“Readers will always be fascinated by the decadent brutality of the 80s, as well as Cooper’s electrifying characters,” says Huang.

The best start

“Because I’m Angry” by Emily Varga

“From the first page, we are drawn in and drawn into this highly imaginative, atmospheric world,” Huang says of the book.

“Because I’m Wrath,” an interpretation of “The Count of Monte Cristo,” is about love, revenge and magic. After being framed for a crime she didn’t commit, Dania has one thing on her mind: revenge. Dania is looking for someone she once loved and is responsible for destroying him. With magic and her new identity, Dania’s desire for revenge may prove stronger than the love she can’t help but feel for Mazin.

He says: “The bond and chemistry between Dania and Mazin in the previous chapters is addictive, which is still felt when the two meet again while Dania is under the secret information of revenge.”

The best fantasy

“Blood Than Bright Bay” by ML Wang

After studying magic with a fever, Sciona became the first woman ever to be admitted to High Magistry at the University of Magics and Industry. He is not accepted by his classmates and professors. With the help of an outsider, a guardian named Thomil, Sciona discovers a conspiracy about magic and the nature of their society.

In “Blood Over Bright Haven,” world-building meets magic, mystery — and deep questions. The novel examines the use of power and colonialism by focusing on gender and moral inequality.

“All the characters are fully fleshed out, with great actors,” says Huang. “Although Sciona starts off as selfish and arrogant, the reader is rewarded with her growth throughout the book as she forms a relationship with Thomil and they fight back against their oppressors.”
