Just in time for the start of the holiday season, November is all set to light up the box office with a slate that includes some of the most anticipated titles of the year. The Thanksgiving holiday weekend is looking pretty good, and this month is expected to open strong—It’s bad, Gladiator IIand Moana 2—all available to moviegoers who plan a trip to the theater as part of their festivities.
Barbenheimer was lightning in a bottle, but if lightning strikes twice, ‘Glicked’ is definitely 2024’s best bet. According to a recent Fandango poll, about 65% of people who movie lovers who like to see both It’s bad and Gladiator IIthey said they would like to see “double the average” in the opening weekend in theaters. This is in line with a Fandango survey that reported 62% of people like both movies Barbie and Oppenheimer as a double feature.

November 8th

Lionsgate has had a tough year at the box office in 2024. The long-delayed movies and video game adaptations. The Borderlands and Strange spin off The White Bird—both struggled to find an audience. Two young missionaries are trapped in the house of a stranger (Hugh Grant) who tries to test their religious faith in a series of cat-and-mouse games in a horror counter-programmer. A heretic. To follow The Best Christmas Game Ever is the second major holiday theme release of the month. Red Onethe Christmas comedy starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans, has received a critically acclaimed release from Amazon/MGM. Dwayne Johnson plays the head of security at the North Pole after Santa is kidnapped. The film sees Johnson acting again Jumanji: Welcome to the Sky ($36.1M domestic opening, $404.5M domestic total) and Jumanji: The Next Level ($59.2M domestic opening, $316.8M domestic total) manager Jake Kasdan. Family friendly ice cream, Red One intended for family members who are eager to embrace the Christmas spirit.

Domestic Opening Weekend Range: $60–$80M [as of 11/7]
Ridley Scott returns to ancient Rome and Gladiator IIthe director’s follow-up to his Oscar winner for Best Picture in 2000. Early reviews suggest that Scott could bring audiences a strong following, boasting Paul Mescal in the lead and a strong ensemble cast. which includes Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn and Derek Jacobi. Scott’s films have been hit or miss in terms of box office in recent years: the 2021’s. The Last Duel (Domestic opening of $4.7M, domestic total of $10.8M), 2021’s House of Gucci ($14.4M domestic opening, $53.8M domestic total), and last year’s Napoleon ($20.6M domestic opening, $61.5M domestic total).
Both House of Gucci and Napoleon also premiered around the Thanksgiving holiday, but unlike recent movies, Gladiator II lives up to its predecessor’s popularity—and the 24-year gap between the two films may provide some emotional inspiration. It landed at number two in Fandango’s 10 most anticipated movies poll of 2,000 moviegoers, one spot ahead of the top seller. Moana 2. Disney is back to claim another Thanksgiving weekend and Moana 2in theaters on the Wednesday before the holiday. Zootopia ($341.2M domestic total), April’s performance/animation hybrid The Jungle Book ($364M domestic total), and December Finding Dory ($486.2M domestic total) – had the biggest cultural impact, driven by its ear-filling sound (it was the fifth best-selling album of the year in the US and won the No. Oscar for Best Original Song).
