Austin City Limits Spotlights Country Music Hall of Fame Icon Wynonna on Powerful Hour – Austin City Limits

This Saturday, November 9, Austin City Limits (ACL) takes a look at the country star Wynonna in an uplifting, revelatory hour. The Country Music Hall of Fame inductee presents a fun, touching album of his career full of solo hits, Judds classics and new gems. The legendary singer/songwriter shares the heartbreak, joy and stories behind the songs in this must-see documentary. A new episode begins for the first time Saturday, November 9th @8pm ET/7pm CT as part of the Austin City Limits commemoration The 50th season. ACL airs weekly on PBS stations nationwide (check local listings) and full episodes are available to stream online at pbs.org/austincitylimits immediately following the first broadcast. 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the venerable music station, which continues to hold the record as the longest-running music series in television history, giving viewers a seat which is ahead of the best players in half a century.

With a fringe in her mic chair, resplendent in a shiny black velvet suit and her signature red hairdo, the one and only Wynonna lights up the Austin City Limits stage for an hour unforgettable. A musical powerhouse like no other, the soulful singer with a big voice takes audiences on a journey through her celebrated 40-year career. “I’ve sung a lot of songs with love,” Wynonna gushes. before the first song “Cry Myself To Sleep.” “And this is not one of them…I would like to give this first. first man.”

“So that’s where it’s at,” shares Wynonna’s thoughts on the 2022 death of mother Naomi, her longtime Judds partner. “I am a woman of faith, and that has been tested in the last two years. I lost my mother to suicide and when she died I thought I would die of a broken heart. So instead I went on tour—a lot of people didn’t understand why—now I understand it’s because the music healed me and the fans supported me through a very difficult time in my life.” Despite his heartbreak, he lovingly adds, “I was on the bus with him for 10 years, try another time… “It’s very different, however Kentucky’s songs are that’s what drove us and that’s what the next song is about.” He then performs his new number, “All Downhill From Ashland,” about the Kentucky town they’re from and the crowd rises to their feet. .

“It’s about to get here,” announced the singer, and in a dramatic, dramatic display, he treated fans to a rendition of classic hits from the Judds catalog and his solo career, including “Why Not Me,” “Tell Me Why,” and “What It Takes.” His eight-piece ace band is joined by Austin’s Grooveline Horns for a fun close-up as he entertains the crowd with fan favorites, “Rock Bottom” and “No One Else on Earth,” proving that there is no one like Wynonna. .

“Wynonna is a perfect example of the healing power of music – whether it’s personal or political,” said ACL executive producer Terry Lickona. “Life is so beautiful, and Wynonna’s songs and personality make that journey so much easier.”
